Be Known By Your Passion

You’ve worked hard to keep up with the hustle and bustle that comes with the demands of a hectic schedule. But, that’s over now; the weekend is here and today is Saturday. You’ve put in your five days and forty hours and called it a week. All you can think about now is curling up in your favorite chair, and shutting out the cares of the day as you jump into the hearts and minds of the characters in the latest story you are reading.

You enjoy dissecting the players through their words, actions and reactions. You absolutely love this stuff! You pay close attention to the author’s style and patterns and then your creative juices start to flow. You’re a fiction writer and suddenly you know the next step or event that will happen in the story that you are penning. You know just how you are going to bring it! You start to write.

Then you realize that you haven’t done the laundry, or sorted the mail, or eaten anything since the cheese and crackers you munched on at sunrise. You know you should eat something but that’s okay you’ll eat later. You’re writing. Your words are rolling off the tips of your fingers as fast as a snowball rolling down a hill of ice.

You’re interrupted by a knock on your door. It’s your next door neighbor and she’s brought you a large piece of Irish soda bread just out of her oven. The feel of your words and the taste of the hot raisin filled bread have you in a passion zone. Man, this is living! You feel fulfilled and satisfied. That’s because you love soda bread but most of all you love your words. Words are your thing and you are feasting on your passion.

But, there’s more to life than your words… your spiritual life, that is.

Jesus says, “It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 (NIV)

“I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.  John 6:35 (NIV)

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelations 3:20 (NIV)

-          Spend time with God through His word.

-          Get to know Him through His word

-          Meet Him every moment that you can through His word

-          Expect His visit

-          Love His word

Are you as passionate about His Word as you are about yours?
